The all female Mountain Inspired course, Introduction to Winter climbing in Scotland offers rewards and challenges comparable with the best anywhere in the world. Guided by our enthusiastic and experienced female mountaineering instructors you will discover all the rope work and climbing skills required to get your winter climbing started. Core skills covered:
Planning a winter climb utilising weather and avalanche forecast, guide books and maps.
Approaching and selecting a safe route.
Climbing efficiently with ice axes and crampons on snow, ice and rock.
Belaying and rope work techniques to become a competent second.
Selecting safe descents and how to navigate in complex terrain in winter conditions.
A good level of fitness and the ability to use an axe and crampons is essential. Summer rock climbing and some rope work skills are useful. Enthusiasm to get stuck in to the challenges of winter climbing is the main pre requisite. The course is suited to those who have already attended a Scottish Winter Mountaineering course and wish to experience climbing on steeper terrain with two axes.
